I worked as a data engineer on a team with other engineers to design and build a sensitive data identification and redaction service for the Risk Tech line of business. We used extensive AWS tooling, Java, Jenkins, and other tools to complete the project.View Program Website

CMDA is an applied integrated science degree. It combines mathematics, statistics, and computer science to build a foundation for data science techniques. Data scientists “have better statistics skills than any software engineer, and better software engineering skills than any statistician.” This degree prepares us for that role. Implemented a Monte Carlo simulation algorithm in C and OpenMPI to model the change in energy of a charged system. Initially built in Python, then C, then expanded to an OpemMP model and finally OpenMPI. Our final refactors of the project reduced the simulation runtime from 720 hours to 90 minutes, a reduction of 99.86%. Note: Unfortunately due to Virginia Tech code sharing policies I'm unable to share the codebase.
Socially Determined sponsored a data project competition that focused on analyzing social determinants to predict COVID-19 outcomes. This was still at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, and our analysis focused on building SIR models of case numbers in Maryland. We modeled the number of cases in each county in Maryland using the data from Socially Determined and present our findings to a panel of judges.
Using the statistical programming language R, I analyzed a dataset of sales transactions for an online superstore. I performed exploratory data analysis and found a possible logistical area for improvement. Using unsupervised clustering methods I isolated the busiest times of the year and used location data to pinpoint the best locations for product distribution centers.View Github Repo
Together with 3 of my classmates, our job was to create and present a full lecture on a difficult machine learning topic. Our topic was Tree Boosting Using Gradient Boost. We had to research, compile the content, and write the presentation using R Markdown. Included was an overview of the method in plain language, an overview of the underlying theory, and implementation and interpretation of R code and output. We received an A+ for this project and it was deemed by fellow classmates the best presentation of the class.View Github Repo
I participated in the CMDA Fall 2019 data competition in the advanced group. Our dataset was a collection of hospital rating survey results from around the U.S. over a period of time. Our goal was to try and find states with sub-average healthcare facilities and attempt to find out why they had bad ratings. We did not use many machine learning methods but did have to perform some computationally intensive data wrangling and joining.View Github Repo
